A great product, does exactly what it says on the can. However, is it just me or does anybody else have a problem keeping the power usb plug in? If you knock mine even a fraction, out it pops and stops charging. Apart from that minor design defect, a 5-star product!

Update: having posted this, I remembered that the device came with a USB lead. On checking this, I noticed that the plug was significantly longer than my standard, Samsung, one. When I inserted this lead, it made a considerably firmer and more secure contact. Rating amended accordingly, now I need to remember to only use this lead to charge up the device.

Great customer service from the manufacturer, too!

My first sight of an Anker product was a couple of weeks ago when I visited an outdoor event with some friends and my phone ran low on charge. One of the guys bailed me out with his 10000mAh device and I was impressed enough to go onto Amazon straight away (well, as soon as my phone was back online) and order my own.

I received my Astor E5 well before the delivery date quoted by Amazon, despite the fact that I live in Jersey, away from the British mainland.

I've found the device very easy to use, the setup instructions were clear and simple to follow and I have done test charges on my iPad and Androids phone so far. I like the idea of building in an LED torch!

I've demonstrated the device to a few of my other friends with positive feedback. I'm an IT consultant so being available online is important to me also I work in a variety of environments and I cannot always rely on finding a power source or wifi, in which case my Android device does service as a mobile hotspot and that really drinks up the battery!

And too, I can see this being extremely useful when travelling, especially with the airport authorities threatening to confiscate my mobile devices if I cannot get them to switch on before I board the plane!

It arrived quickly, securely packaged. The instructions are clear and simple.

The item itself is chunky, not too heavy and gives an impresson of solidity and quality. It just looks ... an attractive bit of kit. It arrived (I would guess) about 80% charged and it took about 45 mins to charge fully, when connected to a USB port on my PC.

I am delighted with this unit - it seems to do exactly what it says on the tin! The tiny gripe? The two connectors supplied (one Apple 30 pin adapter, one Samsung ditto) look a bit flimsy (and Samsung is misspelled!). Not a worry for me, as I'm an Apple user and would use the USB connectors supplied with their products.

Review edited 19/9/13 and this added:

I charged the Anker Astro E5 fully and plugged it into my iPad2, which had only 1% battery capacity left. These were the results:
After 1 hour - 34%.
After 2 hours - 63%.
After 3 hours - 88%.
100% capacity was reached after a fraction under 4 hours (about 3hr 55min). There were still two lights showing on the unit, indicating 25-50% charge remaining.

Frankly, I think that is superb performance! Delighted with the product...!!!

My son bought one and very pleased with it.
Bought one on his recommendation and delighted with it too.
Holds charge well; charges tablet and phone quickly; takes a while to recharge but a non-issue really.
Keep it with me all the time.
Delivery first-class. Will recommend this product and company

Having read reviews I decided to Go For It!
Delivery time was excellent. The product was well packaged and the Power Bank has a useful holder.
I checked out it's capabilities immediately.

I was able to charge my Kindle using the power cable that came with it.
I also charged my iPhone 5. I am upgrading to an iPhone 6 Plus and am pleased that the power bank is compatible.
The unit was 75% charged. My one surprise was the time it took to recharge the Power Bank.
I used by iPhone adaptor and assumed that it would charge from it's 50% level to full in a couple of hours.
It seemed to take several. This may mean that when we are away from home that we will leave the unit on charge all night.

My wife and I were in Rome recently and were using our ipones a lot both for the sat nav, as walked the streets, and for photographs/social networking etc. If only I had purchased the Portable Power Bank before we went away?
It appears to do all that it claims and I am a very satisfied customer.

I bought this about a month ago after recently taking up up hiking and geocaching and the battery on my iPhone 4s was simply not up to my app usage whilst doing these activities. On an average hike day, I'd run the TomTom app to drive to where I was going, sometimes with Google Maps as a backup; and on the hike I'd have an app that tracks my progress, a geocaching app, the camera app and the music player all running pretty much all day. Then of course, I go back to the TomTom app for the drive home. No, the iPhone battery is definitely not up to that level of abuse, lol.

Firstly, I tried one of those portable chargers where you put in some batteries, but honestly, what a waste of time, space and money. The charge was too slow and I found that I was using power faster than the charger was giving it to me. Not to mention the cost and environmental impact of continually replacing the batteries!

I needed another solution, so after a little research, I decided to go for the Anker® Astro E5, with the main selling points being that it's rechargeable and it charges quickly. There are already lots of reviews covering how quickly it'll charge a dead phone, so I won't go into that; besides, that's not how I use it. I tend to plug my charger in once I get to my destination and let it juice up my phone after the TomTom app has dunted the battery after the drive. Then I get all my other apps sorted and I leave the phone plugged into the charger until the drive home.

Granted, it's not an ideal set up. The charger is quite bulky and heavy, adding over 300g in weight to my load. But I reckon it's worth the extra weight for the security that it gives me when I have a functioning phone.
