In or around 2002, Midnight Star reformed after a 10 or so year hiatus. '15th Avenue' resulted and was released later that year on the bands own label. Mellowed with age perhaps, unlike their previous albums, there's nothing really here specifically for the dance floor, instead the band deliver a really nice, soulful listening set, and if you ever liked some of the groups earlier slow jam material like 'Curious', 'Move Me', 'Feels So Good', 'Let's Celebrate' etc you'll be in seventh heaven!. Midnight Star always were a fantastically gifted band vocally and I can't tell you how good it felt to hear Bo Watson, Melvin Gentry, Belinda Lipscomb (in fact this album features almost the original line up) et all in full flow again! Best tracks for me being the mildly funky title track, 'Just Flow With Me', 'Should Have Been Me' and 'Black Girl' but essentially, this is the kind of record that if you like one track you'll probably like them all. So to sum up then, '15th Avenue' may not be as varied an album as others in the groups history, but it's a real grower and after a few listens I guarantee it's subtle grooves will really get under your skin! Worth adding to your collection.

Like the review above this one, Midnight Star hasn't lost a step at all..., Belinda and the guys bring the heat. Uptempo cuts like "15th Avenue, I Like(When You Dance with Me?, and VIP", are off the chain.., And the ballads, "Movin'On, Hooked on You, and Just Because I Love You", are those red light, belly-rubbin', house party smokers...., This cd is complete, tracks 1 through 15, bottom line, vintage soul at it's best, no cameos from rappers to appeal to the teen audience.., like the intro track says..,"M.S. in the House", and only Midnight Star...., This is the best cd I have heard in the last 5 years..., finally a cd with substance, no weak tracks here..., Just put it in the deck and let it play..., so don't sleep on this....., believe me..., Midnight Star has another No Parking on the Dance Floor here, and we all remember how tight that album was...., Pick it up!!!

This new CD is smooth, mellow and funky..A great stress reliever..Perfect for cruising down the highway. Its got these mellow funky grooves that mixes the old school with the new... I love all the songs but special favorites are "I Like", "VIP", "15th Ave." "Out Tonight" and a classic!! "Caught Up".
Belinda's got the lyrics,delivery,and arrangements thats Grammy potential. For a so called old school act, Midnight Star has broken the rules..and has not lost a step..This CD's a sleeper.

Midnight Star fans get ready to be disappointed

when I first saw this new CD I couldn't get to listening quick enough. If your looking for the Classic style of dance cuts, the melodic mid tempo movers, or the melting ballads that these guys produced over most of their LPs, even after the departure of calloway brother, then think again!
The only track to my mind that is worth any kind of praise, is the title track, but only on the (OLD SCHOOL MIX).
Like many, on seeing the name of a band that I grew up enjoying, I was so, so looking forward to at least a touch of that former glory, but no. I know things have moved on over the years, but surely the repetitive dull ballads here are not gonna help sell this CD. Sorry guys!!
