Product Description

Roy Vicars is a survivor of a bomb attack on a North Sea oil platform, supposedly carried out by Islamic terrorists. He is helpless with grief at the loss of his partner, Melanie, in the attack, and determined to find out the truth behind it.

He soon discovers that the destruction of the platform was merely a dry run for a far bigger and more sinister attack planned by megalomaniac oil company presidents, Larry Pappas and Irene Orinoco.

He forms an unlikely team with professional hit-woman, Sid, who has her own demons to conquer. Together, they join forces in a nail-biting race against time to stop the two presidents, whose plan, if successful, will result in almost certain world-wide destruction and anarchy. But Larry and Irene have their own secrets, as Roy is about to find out.

It’s the kind of book that might have happened had Dan Brown met Stieg Larsson.

More About the Author

From the age of six, Mads Sorensen knew he wanted to be a writer. In fact, he could even write before he could read, requiring his mother to read his stories back to him.

While living in his native country, Denmark, Mads participated in several geological expeditions to Greenland before moving with his job in the oil industry to England. Here, he continued to pursue his dream, writing at any spare moment he could find.

He started out writing novels set in a future Ice Age before moving to the ever popular thriller genre. With Echoes of The Kin, Mads has now returned to his beloved frozen future.

3.0 out of 5 stars A solid debut 16 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a really good read, there are a couple of really memorable characters that would stand against many more established authors and a couple more (the main female protagonist and the incoming CEO) which I think have the right foundations. Sid was for me the most intriguing an I would have liked to know more.
The writing flowed well and I had no trouble finishing and in fact read the last half in one sitting.
If I had one gripe it would be that Roy, to my mind anyway, occasionally said or did things I thought out of character, a minor quibble admittedly
I loved the dramatisation and the pacing of the plot.
Good luck with the next one if you read this, I'll keep an eye out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb action thriller. 24 Feb. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I've recently become a great fan of investing in debut novels from unknown authors, in the hope that I can be treated to something fresh and original - 15000 Feet Below most certainly did not disappoint.

The complex and 3-dimensional nature of the characters really drew me into the narrative and I refused to put it down, desperate to discover if they were successful in their quest. The vividly portrayed barren setting of the Arctic Circle perfectly complements the tone of the novel, serving to build the feeling of suspense and urgency.

All in all, this is a top class debut novel from this author; I will keep a close lookout for him in the future.

4.0 out of 5 stars 15000 Feet Below 10 April 2013

This, to me, was a very enjoyable, fast-paced, edge of your seat thriller.

Yes, at times, the story seemed implausible. The characters would get to the right place in the nick of time, they would meet up with who they needed to at the right time, etch. But as long as you just went along with this, then the story just flowed along quite rapidly.

I did find this a nice easy read and, at times, un-put-downable.

5.0 out of 5 stars A meaty and wonderful read 26 Mar. 2013
By Ignite TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Roy is a geologist for an international oil company and he and his partner Melanie are involved in a huge explosion on a rig. Melanie and most of the others involved are killed. Roy survives ... but the explosion was not an accident. Someone's out to kill him because of what he knows. There's a complex plot to blow another oil field, this time with a nuclear device, and it will result in a huge human and ecological catastrophe which could escalate into all-out war. Roy and the unlikely hit-woman Sid, try to prevent it. Can they? Do they? I'm not going to tell you!

The plot is so much more substantial than any brief summary can explain. We seem to grasp the motives of the characters involved but we don't know it all. The roots of the outrageous plot go back to the earliest childhoods of the participants. This is a really meaty story; a long and wonderful read and I enjoyed it very much. The standard of the writing is also commendable. It's very readable although it deals with some of the day to day technicalities of the oil industry. It's never dry; it's always fast moving and exciting. I think this is Mads Sorensen's first book. I hope he's writing another!

5.0 out of 5 stars An instant classic! 23 Feb. 2012
By Mary
Format:Kindle Edition
I found this novel a brilliantly written and gripping white-knuckle ride against the clock. It was fast-paced and, contrary to the average action thriller, the characters were strong and believable. No implausibly noble hunks or stunning, hyper-intelligent blondes to be found here.
You really get to know these characters and I found myself desperately rooting for the two protagonists in their quest to avert the cataclysm. The emotional and action-packed ending left me stunned and actually brought a tear to my eye.
