Product Description

CD Description

More than two years in the making, Barry Manilow teams up once again with lyricist Enoch Anderson for this latest work.

After having recorded six critically acclaimed albums of songs written by the greatest songwriters of all time – from Gershwin to Bacharach, Manilow returns at last to his true passion –songwriting.

Inspired by the Andy Warhol quote that “In the future, everybody will be world famous for fifteen minutes,” this exciting guitar-driven pop album explores the perils and pinnacles of fame’s double-edged sword.

“Fame and success are something we all strive for, and yet when we get it how do we behave? That question jumps out at us daily from magazine covers, TV news and online gossip sites. In my world of entertainment, I’ve watched perfectly decent and talented people achieve the success they’ve been striving for only to crash and burn as their star rises. It happens in every walk of life, not only in the entertainment field; in sports, in politics and in daily life when the assistant manager gets promoted at the grocery store. It’s something that continues to fascinate us, and for me it represented an interesting musical journey to explore,” explained Manilow.

Making a guest appearance on 15 MINUTES is young Nataly Dawn, lead singer of the white-hot group “Pomplamoose.” Her rendition of “Letter From A Fan” is both innocent and eerie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, the MUST have CD of the Decade! 4 July 2011
Format:Audio CD
I have been a fan of Barry's for over 22 years and album has taken my breathe away. They promised an original and that is what we have! If you're thoughts of Barry turn to 'Copacabana' and 'Mandy', 'Can't smile without you'...please do yourself a favour and buy this album, turn the lights low, pour a drink and turn the music up and enjoy!

Manilow music has always been piano driven as this is his main instrument and although the piano features and is just beautiful on 'Bring On Tomorrow' but the guitar is perfect for the theme of some of the other tracks and 'Slept Through The End Of The World' is something very special and has grabbed my attention but there are some great up-tempo tracks to get you moving too!

I could talk about this album for hours but it would be my interpretation of it and I think that 15 Minutes will mean something different to everyone that listens to it...so please take a chance and click to buy and enjoy this very special album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 29 Jun 2011

One listen and I loved it. I'm not a Barry Manilow fan. Different and so good. Deserves to be a big hit. Every one of these songs offers something worthy. Great production with an unexpected guitar driven sound. Can't see any reason why people would not like it, unless they think they are too cool for BM. Just listened to this for 2 weeks on holiday, it's totally amazing. Every song is brilliant, with Slept Through The End of The World one of the most beautiful songs ever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow - What a surprise 3 July 2011
Format:MP3 Download
I will put my hand up to being a big Barry fan, but I was really taken by surprise at this cd. Simply put - it's GREAT. I'm never disappointed by Barry but with his new cd the music is fresh and very original. It's crying out to be made into a film or show, and I hope this happens. Barry sounds great, and before I bought it, having seen him on TV recently, I already couldn't get "Bring on Tommorow" out of my head. I almost wish he'd brought it out anonymously - it might get a fairer chance to be heard then as some people have such preconceived ideas about singers past a certain age. If you're not sure whether to buy it or not, I would say go for it. It makes you think about stardom and you get to tap your feet while you're doing it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Could It Be Manilow Magic? 27 July 2011
Format:Audio CD
I don't usually buy an album on the basis of having heard one track unless it is an artist who I have bought a lot previously. Like most people, I am familiar with much of Barry's fantastic back catalogue and when I heard a song previewed on BBC Radio 2's Breakfast Show, I thought I would get the album to see what the rest of it was like. The sixteen tracks come in at nearly 53 minutes, so you aren't getting short changed.

As the title suggests (15 Minutes Fame... Can You Take It?) and the sleeve notes explain, this is a concept album, mostly a collaboration between Manilow and lyricist Enoch Anderson.

There are a couple of songs here that remind me strongly of Lloyd-Webber/Rice musical songs, although that simile is born of a lack of music knowledge as this is not my usual genre. Principal amongst those would be "Slept Through The End Of The World" and "Trainwreck".

It would be very difficult to pigeon-hole this recording as the variety of styles encompass the mellow "Now It's For Real", the very Manilowesque piano number "Written In Stone" and the eclectic Nataly Dawn duet "So Heavy, So High".

Far and away the standout Manilow future classic, however, is the song that I originally heard - "Bring On Tomorrow" - which is sure to become a favourite with his followers thanks to Barry's use of orchestration and Anderson's uncomplicated lyric. It fits in with the fifteen minute concept of the project but it is a song that is not tied to it.

5.0 out of 5 stars NEW MANILOW! 24 Jun 2011
Format:Audio CD
Although I am what people usually refer to as a "fanilow", I have, in the past, reviewed Barry Manilow's efforts with a fair amount of objectivity (i.e., lots of 3 stars), so my views on 15 minutes are as unbiased as realistically possible. This is a truly solid effort, worthy of 4 1/2 stars.

I won't bore you with a track-by-track review of the album, since you'll need to listen to make up your own mind. But I warn you: The 30-second snippets don't tell the whole story and, upon first listen, they might even put you off the album. Don't let them deceive you. Most of the fans I know were a bit discouraged when they heard the clips and now regard 15 Minutes as one of their favorite albums ever. In my book, this is the second best Manilow album of all time (nothing beats 2AM Paradise Café, though).

So this is a brief overview of what you'll find in the album:

1. Big Barry ballads: only 1 track, called "Bring on Tomorrow", which happens to be the track he's been singing on TV to promote the album and, strangely enough, the track I'm constantly skipping over. So if you're not crazy about "Bring on Tomorrow", don't let this song stop you from buying the album.
2. "Small" ballads (meaning fewer strings and key changes): "Trainwreck" (a timeless beauty and one of his best vocals of the last 10 years, I think) and "Written in Stone" (a beauty of a song, though I'm not crazy about his vocals there)
3. Neil-Diamond style, guitar-driven slow tempo song: "Slept through the end of the world", which even the harshest of critics seem to be moved by.
4. Meat Loaf style rock: "Letter from a fan / So heavy so high".
