This is a collection of entries from the online journal Seven by Twenty, each of which fits in a tweet. As a haiku easily fit into a tweet (in fact it would be interesting to have a haiku that was too long for a tweet) there are number of these. I found the most interesting ones contained sentences because you could see how much you could get into just under 140 characters.

Whether haiku or ultra short stories, or similar micro literature, the standard is quite high. You get a lot of thoughtfulness per word, so it's good value for money. Related entries are grouped in sections, but within each there is mostly good variety. Overall the quality is consistently high. Well recommended.

twitter as haiku 5 Mar 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I love this small book of memorable sayings taken from Twitter; they are necessarily concise, and all the better for being so.Having been an ardent fan of Twitter for over a year, I entered a draw on librarything.com, and was lucky enough to win a copy.It is only more recently that I have begun to appreciate haiku and the poignant and memorable images that can be so succinctly expressed. Why write a hundred words when ten can express the same thought and capture the same evocative image? Whittling down to my favourite entry was not easy but eventually I chose this one: 'stop to tie my shoe/look up as evening comes/without warning.' - Neal Whitman.

I was also absorbed by the short biographies of the contributors, and have already clicked 'Follow' for three. Joanne Merriem, the editor of Upper Rubber Boot, is someone I intend to find out more about.

Think of these as very short, short stories 30 April 2012

140 and Counting is a collection of stories, poems, and other literary works using as many characters that can fit inside a single tweet on Twitter. Merriam is the editor of Seven by Twenty, an online magazine dedicated to works that fit inside a single tweet (140 characters or less) and using Twitter as its publishing platform. 140 and Counting is her collection of 141 of her favorites from the magazine divided into various categories: relationships, nature and the night, work, animals, seasons, science fiction and fantasy, and mortality. Contributors are listed in the back, and most have their Twitter address so you can follow them or read up on current works.

A quick read, especially for those guilty of enjoying tweets from strangers. And considering I use Twitter, I was amazed at how complete some of the stories and poems were from what the authors had to work with (limited characters and space to write the ideas).

Having been an ardent fan of Twitter for over a year, I entered a draw in librarything.com, and was lucky enough to win a copy. It is only more recently that I have begun to appreciate haiku and the poignant and memorable images that can be so succinctly expressed. Why write a hundred words when ten can express the same thought and capture the same evocative image? Whittling down my favourite entries was difficult but these are the two I have chosen as examples from the seven sections:

stop to tie my shoe
look up evening comes
without warning
- Neal Whitman

the cold night
comes out of the stones
all morning
- Jim Kacian

I was also absorbed by the short biographies of the contributors, and shall most definitely click 'Follow' for several of them. Joanne Merriem, the editor of Upper Rubber Boot, is someone I intend to find out more about.
