5.0 out of 5 stars AN EXCELLENT COMPANION TO 'FIRST STEPS IN WINEMAKING', 3 Jul 2003
By Hilary Cameron (Coventry, Warwickshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
If you have enjoyed the delights of CJJ Berry's 'First Steps in Winemaking', then this is an ideal companion and the logical next step. Although one or two of the recipes have been repeated from the first book, this contains over 130 mouth-watering recipes for home-made 'country' wines. Even at today's prices, they can work out as little as 20p per 75 cl bottle!!

Unlike the first book, the wines are listed in alphabetical order rather than seasonally which makes them easier to locate. The only problem I found was deciding which to make first and having to limit production to the space available in the house.

For beginners, try 'First steps' first as there are more detailed instructions for home winemaking - these are bascially just recipes and assume a working knowledge of the techniques involved.

For more experienced wine makers or as a companion volume, it is superb and inspirational.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth having, 2 Nov 2009
By P. Turner (Norfolk UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this book as an accompaniment for Mr B's "First Steps" which I have used for many years.

It is all well laid out and easy to follow, I was glad to see that the sugar quantities have been adjusted down in this volume compared to "First Steps" which should help less experienced wine makers ending up with "stuck" over sweet wines.

I would recommend this book to wine makers of all levels of experience as a good read!
