Product Description

From the producer of Dog Soldiers, 13 Hrs stars some of the hottest young British talent in one of the horror hits of the year. Starring Tom Felton (Harry Potter), Gemma Atkinson (Hollyoaks), Isabella Calthorpe (How to Lose Friends and Alienate People) and Joshua Bowman (Holby City). A full moon hangs in the night sky and lightning streaks across dark storm clouds. Sarah Tyler (Isabella Calthorpe) returns to her troubled family home in the isolated countryside, for a much put-off visit. As the storm rages on, Sarah, along with her family and friends shore up for the night, cut off from the outside world. But something emerges from the driving rain and darkness. Something that holds a dark secret so devastating that, in one night, it could wipe out the entire family. Trapped, Sarah, along with her brothers and friends must use their heads as well as their physical strength to survive not only the thing that is hunting them down one by one - but their own entrapment as the besieged group turns in on itself. Can they survive the horror which is stalking them? Can they survive for 13 hours? Or is their enemy already amongst them and always has been?

Okay creature feature 16 Nov 2010
By PJ Rankine TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:DVD
Overall this is not a bad movie, it just isn't a particularly good one. As in the best creature features the monster is not revealed to the end saving a fortune on special effects. Unfortunately for a horror/slasher movie to be effective the audience has to be able to relate to or sympathise with the victims but the cast of characters here are an unlikeable bunch of upper middle class wasters who elicit no sympathy whatsover. Even the heroine isn't particularly likeable and indeed throughout most of the film they are as much as a danger to each other as the creature that is stalking them. Apart from the late Simon MacCorkindale the only character who is in any way likeable is the working class girl played by Gemma Atkinson (the blonde with the big norks as described by one reviewer) who despite appearing to be a tramp comes good before her inevitable demise. The story in itself is not bad at all, it makes sense despite a few plot failings and ticks all the boxes for this type of film. There is not an overabundance of on screen killings or lurid splashes of blood so on that count the director is to be commended. It would appear from his IMDB rating that director Jonathan Glendenning is improving as this film currently rates 4.8 whilst his previous outing S.N.U.B. is only rated at 3.1. At this rate of improvement and with all British casting I look forward to his next effort.

Really poor film. I love both the 28 days later films, both the Descent films and 30 days of night. This film really isn't anywhere near as good as these, don't buy it. I watched it once and sold it next day!

...for the rest of us who've seen more than two werewolf films and want more from a movie than Gemma Atkinson in a short skirt, this is a failure on just about every level.

Firstly, did I miss the relevance of the title? At what point did the 13 hour issue come up? I can work out for myself it's a case of stay alive and wait for dawn as we saw in the vastly superior Dog Soldiers, but they might as well have called this Big Werewolf House since the actual title never came up in plot or conversation.

Secondly, I don't care this was low budget. I don't watch a film for effects. I watch it for script, story and acting. This lacked a decent story, had a predictable script and pretty poor acting. Plus various gaps in realism and logic. Witness the copper responding to a 999 call who stops at the scene of an abandoned car and then lets a civilian handle what is probably evidence of an incident from the car. Also not to forget said copper taking about a week to actually get to the house.

Thirdly, a note to the writer and director: atmosphere and acting are much more effective when making a horror film than spending half the film focusing on a blonde with big norks.

Lastly, you'll like this if you think Hollyoaks is well-acted and realistic. Otherwise, avoid.
