I was looking for a simple and cheap way to light my videos, and came across this kit. I immediately ordered two, and have had them for a couple of days now. The light itself is great, and the flexibility is astounding: they can be mounted on camera, or on any stand with a standard hotshoe-adapter. The light intensity can be set anywhere from "barely there" to "you will go blind", and bearing the light emitting capacity of the LEDs in mind, this rig is seriously bright.
The only thing I would have liked to see was a plug for a standard AC/DC-adapter. There is no way to plug this unit into a wall. You HAVE to run it on batteries, which can be a costly and/or time consuming affair. However, if, like me, you have no use for the "camera battery adapter" included with the unit, you can MacGyver up your own power supply using a £10 AC/DC-adapter, some glue or soldering tin, and some spare electrical wire. Just set your adapter to 7.2V (I have yet to try it on 9V) and you're good to go. I've done just that, and although my solution isn't winning any design awards, I've got all the light I need for stationary shooting. For everything else, there's AA.
All in all, a very nice unit, and the price makes it a no-brainer. If you're willing to spend an hour tinkering with a DIY power supply, or just run everything off batteries, you really can't go wrong here.
