Book Description

Mar 2001
Casey Collins, a U.S. Foreign Service officer, is thrown into a maelstrom of agony when she learns a New York-bound flight from England exploded soon after takeoff. Fearing her lover, Stefan Krajewski, a Polish operative for Danish Defense Intelligence, was on the ill-fated flight, she races to Europe to learn the truth. Casey is swiftly embroiled in a twisted series of events that paint her as a terrorist conspirator and a suspect in the airline bombing. Discredited by her own State Department, pursued by the FBI, wanted by Interpol, she is a fugitive whose only protection is a small band of skilled agents operating outside of the law. Hurled into a relentless, death-dealing mission, she senses a multi-leveled web of deception tightening around her, forcing her to rely on people she neither knows or trusts -- any one of whom might sacrifice her life for their own corrupt motives.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice base for a story. Very poor ending 28 Jun 2000

Just read the book. I would say that Diana Deverell has made a fair attempt at the plot, however I believe it is crude..to suggest that this book is in anyway similar to a Robert Ludlum novel. Reader's of this book must not compare the author to Robert Ludlum. In time, Diana Deverell will realise her own style of writing and increase the depth of the plot with more twists and turns. Keep at it Diana!

12 Drummers is engaging, exciting stuff, recalling the thrills and chills of LeCarre and Deighton. But here, the dusty old men's club is aired out, and human connections have real substance. (So does the food!) A great read for a winter evening.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Good debut thriller 13 July 1998
By A Customer
Format:Hardcover
American Foreign Service Officer Casey Collins is stunned to learn that a cross-oceanic airliner exploded in air from what apparently was a Lockerbie-like bombing incident. Casey fears that her lover, Polish double agent Stefan Krajewski, who works for the Danes, died on the ill-fated flight.

Desperate to know the truth about her beloved, Casey quickly flies to Denmark to determine whether Stefan still lives. Her inquiries come to the attention of Danish and American officials. Eventually, she finds Stefan, but he has a beautiful blond attached to his arm. Before she can decide what this means, Casey finds herself running for her life as she has become the prime suspect in the Lockerbie Two bombing. With no one else to trust, Casey has an uphill battle to prove that she had nothing to do with the fatal airplane explosion.

12 DRUMMERS DRUMMING is an exciting thriller that is hurt by the common error of debuting authors, who try to develop too many different story lines in one book. Instead none of the sub-plots fully get developed and none of them take charge of the story line. Still, Diana Deverell clearly has talent as her first published novel remaisn an action-packed, non-stop international thriller that will please fans of the sub-genre.
