5.0 out of 5 stars 12.01 28 Mar 2008
The film 12.01 is much underated. It is based on an original short story of the same name and no doubt inspired the pleasant but rather sentimentalised hollywood version 'Groundhog Day'. At the time the 'big movie' Goundhog Day became more famous because it used celebrity actors. 12.01 is a more Sci-fi based version of the story and is more exciting and amusing despite the inclusion of the inevitable romance. My question is: why is it unavailable in region 2 format for those of us on the UK side of the market?

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than Ground Hog Day? OH YES 7 April 2009
I was never a great fan of Jonathon Silverman, of Helen Slater come to that, but they made this movie into an unmissable piece of sci-fi which makes Ground Hog Day look like a straight to DVD movie(which it should have been really!) A great series of twists keeps the momentum going right to the superb ending, some excellent humour along the way, what more do you want?
You cant get this in region 2, but most dvd players now have multi region, or you can find the "crack" code on the tinterweb.

4.0 out of 5 stars 50 first dates meets Groundhog Day 26 Dec 2011
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
While the idea of a repeating day is getting somewhat overused the plot is a bit more edgy than than a rom-com but not exactly an edge of your seat thriller. Not Agatha Christie but the two leads paly their part well and the villain is all he ought to be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cracking Thriller 21 April 2010
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This is a great comedy thriller/detective story of someone trying to correct the same day over and over again! The cast and acting are excellent, particularly the two leads. I have watched this many times over the years and always had a good laugh! Do not think too much about having someone outside the time-bubble but they do at least make an attempt of a pseudo-scientific explanation!

As an aside, I do not understand why reviewers feel the need to diss Groundhog day which is also a great film (it might just be me but I find that film an existential exploration of the situation and perhaps more widely of the important things in life - and is incidentally funny! The romance is not the point). I do think one should buy this film not expecting a better or worse version of Groundhog day as apart from the central premise these films are different and excellent on their own merits.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great film! 12 May 2014
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
I'm always interested in stories to do with time. This is one of my favourites. Much better than 'Groundhog Day' to my way of thinking. Having Helen Slater in it is a big plus! But Jonathan Silverman and Martin Landau certainly don't disappoint. Despite my being in Region 4 (New Zealand) with PAL TV, this DVD played on my gear just fine. My copy came from 'Tunes' in Marlton NJ and arrived in less than two weeks. Great service.
