2.0 out of 5 stars Bland 27 Nov 1999
By A Customer
This book is more about common sense than web promotion. It doesn't really get to the point, neither does it shed any new light on actual ways to promote your web site. I am an intermeddiate user, and as far as I'm concerened I could have got just as much common sense from my Uncle Albert, than from Susan Sweeny. Plus the Members Only Web Site is a joke! If you like this approach, then buy, if not, then spend your money on a more worthwhile book...

2.0 out of 5 stars Book Title and Contents Do Not Match 1 May 1999
By A Customer
The book is better than a few other books I have bought. I have used most of the techniques listed in the book, and I know they work. However, I feel being cheated by the publisher because the book promises 101 ways, and I only found 56 ways. The subtitle is more accurate as it hints that the 101 ways include tips and resources. Also, I'm very disappointed by the companion Web site. All I found are links to other Web sites mentioned in the book!!! There's absolutely no value to this companion site. I would have given this book a higher score if it covers more of the promotion techniques in greater depth. Out of the 56 ways, only 1/3 are covered well, and they are already familiar to most people: seach engines, directories, newsgroups, mailing lists, banner ads, and cybermall. The book could have focused more on the less known techniques such as online seminars, interactive tours, chat rooms, free offers, sponsoring Net events, and techniques used by such popular sites as and CNet. Finally, like many of the Internet books I have bought, some of the information in the book is already out dated. For example, the domain name registration agency is no longer at [...] The author could have provided some advice on how to keep up with the changes on the Internet.

1.0 out of 5 stars Number 102-Keep reviewing your own book. 6 Sep 1999
By A Customer
This book is terrible, A complete waste of my time and money. The 4 star rating for her book on this site is also bogus. It is obvious that she keeps giving herself her own book review. Just look above, all of the GOOD comments are from someone in Nova Scotia. (Hey, that's where she's from). Don't waste your money....

I'm very disappointed by this book. There's no substance! All the book provides is some general information about the common promotion tools on the Web. It then lists pages of links that require hours of surfing on the Internet. The companion Web site is such a bad joke that I can't believe the publisher made such a big deal out of it. There are no more than 20 links on this companion Web site and NOTHING ELSE!!! I'm returing this book for a refund.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bit wordy at times but ery comprehensive 12 Aug 2009
By David L
I thought the book was good and on the whole very comprehensively covered quite a big area.
Yes, there are books that are more detailed on SEO but this book does take on a very wide remit and does it well even though it's a tad wordy at times, a wee bit repetitive and the author does rather over promote herself (but hey, she is a marketeer so whaddaya expect!)
A few areas where I would like to see more include Blogs, Affiliate schemes (and how these compare with pure advertising prgrammes), technorati (which I still dont really get!), the likes of Digg and Delioious (which no one in the UK seems to use - I know I asked all my pals) and Twitter (which is not mentioned at all in the book)
But these are minor criticisms.
I thought the stuff on email newsletters and viral marketing were especially useful for me but I scrawled ideas down from chapters throughout the book.
Worth getting hold of and I have to say it looked the best of the bunch from the other books I spent 2 hours perusing in a certoan big London bookshop in Piccadilly.

A very well rounded and easy to understand book on web promotion strategies that gets people started on the right foot. People should read it even before they design their web pages - regardless of whether they wish to take an active roll in the promotion of their sites. Here at we know that client understanding makes a substantial difference in the success of a promotion plan. I wish all my customers would read this book so they could understand why we ask them to make certain changes to their pages before we promote them. The book is well laid out with short, to the point paragraphs of information that can easily be grasped by beginners. I'll be recommending, "101 Ways to Promote Your Website by Susan Sweeney", to my clients.
