3.0 out of 5 stars ok but nothing great 25 Nov 2010

I have just completed a beginners dressmaking class and was hoping this book would give me some inspiration. Nearly all of the instructions were for hand sewing, e.g. hand sewing on beads and sequins, which doesnt really need much explaining.
One of the projects was for a fitting a fur collar on a top, however it basically just told you to buy a fur collar to match the style of top, and hand sew it on wheras i was wanting to know how to create a fur collar from fur fabric. Many of the projects would have taken ages, e.g. hand sewing a lace overlap to a top. There was no explaination why it couldnt be machine sewed.
This would be better suited to teenagers doing art projects and those with no sewing machine. The only interesting ideas were for sewing buttons around the hem of a skirt whcih looked pretty, but nothing else was too inspiring and the info was not detailed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent DIY 31 Dec 2003
I bought this book for my daughter who is always adding personal touches to her clothes. It gave her new ideas and has kept her busy for hours updating clothes that she was thinking of giving away. The instructions are clear and some of the ideas are very simple and be completed very quickly. I'll even be making some changes to my own clothes!
