This is the same book as "101 Spanish Idioms" ( which I have reviewed previously, and which I found to be excellent) but with the addition of a CD Rom on which each page is spoken by native Spanish speakers. It is a hugely welcome and effective learning tool. By repeated listening the language begins to become embedded and understood directly, as opposed to through translation. I recommend it highly and look forward to similar products in the future.

I've lived in Spain 27 years but have far too little knowledge of sayings and idioms and so I was attracted to this book. The passages illustrating the idioms are confined to one page each and the simple stories are easy to understand. Moreover there is a key in English at the end of the book. However when I asked friends to advise on how widespread the usage was, I got a mixed response. Some of the sayings are hardly heard but it was commented that some may be regional in use. The CD that I hoped would be useful for pronounciation was a total disappointment. The passages are read in American Spanish in which the diction was poor. It sounded dramatically different from ours. This leads me to wonder if some of the usage is also American. Perhaps the publishers would do well to provide an American version as well as and a European version.
