Book Description

24 Nov 2006
Includes guest exercises by leading equestrians such as Missy Clark, Hap Hansen and James Wofford. “If you can master all 101 of Linda Allen's examples, you'll never encounter anything on a course that will surprise you – at least not very much.” – William Steinkraus, 1968 Individual Olympic Gold Medal, Show Jumping Practice makes perfect but only if you practise correctly. In this handbook Linda Allen, a world-class horsewoman, former Grand Prix competitor, and designer of international Show Jumping courses, teaches you the exercises every horse and rider ought to know, from the simplest skills to the most complex techniques. Containing 101 jumping exercises every horse and rider should know, it starts with basic work over and around poles to help horse and rider establish and maintain a dialogue with each other. The exercises then progress in complexity, teaching the rider correct technique, balance and confidence. • For novices – how to establish and maintain a 'dialogue' between horse and rider • For trainers – exercises to achieve proper balance and technique so the horse will approach each jump with confidence • For instructors – new ideas to make lessons both fun and educational • For experienced competition riders – fresh perspectives on how to achieve and hold on to the competitive edge Including guest exercises by leading equestrians Missy Clark, Anthony D'Ambrosio, Joe Fargis, Hap Hansen, and James Wofford, 101 Jumping Exercises provides fresh perspectives on how to achieve and hold on to the competitive edge. Foreword by Olympic Gold Medalists David O'Connor, Joe Fargis, and William Steinkraus

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 21 Oct 2007
Format:Paperback
I bought this book having previously bought Jec Aristotle Balou's book '101 dressage exercises', which is very good. This is undoubtedly better - whilst the exercises are equally valid andhelpful, there is much more explanation and a useful cross-referencing guide.... "if this doesn't work, try exercise 38 to improve X."
The 'celebrity' exercises are actually fab - I thought this might be a bit of a sales fad, but it's hard not to take seriously exercises that Sylvia Loch, Tim Stockdale and Richard Davison state as 'essentials'
Perfect book coming into winter when, let's face it, we all sometimes go into the menage thinking 'what shall we do today?'..... this book will give you all you need, and you may never be at a loss again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for self improvement 8 Sep 2008
Format:Paperback
Every January I clear the jumps out of my arena and spend the month doing excersises from this book and by the end of the month all the horses are more balanced and responsive and my riding is more acurate. Very helpful, especially for those without access to a trainer.

Really good exercises & good diagrams which are easy to follow and understand. Adds variety and structure to your training sessions and helps iron out any problems you may have. All the "101...exercise" series are equally as good, i have the dressage one as well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good 12 Jan 2004
Format:Plastic Comb
This is a good book for people training their horses and wishing to improve their gymnastic ability.
it has good little tips however it's not much use for people with problems with their riding postion at all, because it does not teach you how to ride it.
it is used purely for different layouts and spacing. To work though, and build up confidence of horse and rider

4.0 out of 5 stars Good inspiration 16 Mar 2012
By Mel
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this book to help me school my 3 year old. It is comprehensive and has some very good exercises in, including pole work. It also reminds people of various jumping positions, striding and some small courses. The only downside is that it tends to focus most of its exercises on the one gridwork. But definitely worth buying
