5.0 out of 5 stars Type while watching TV 3 Feb 2011
Colour Name:BLACK|Verified Purchase
I wanted to be able to do computer jobs (word process and spreadsheet) while sitting in the lounge watching TV. That's better than falling asleep.
The ASUS notebook does all I ask of it. There was no need for a fast or expensive machine. The keyboard has a good feel. I find the mouse pad very twitchy but that's old age. I'm about to fit a mini mouse which should help. The screen is clear with good colours and displays photos well. The wireless connection found my router straight out the box and so I use it quite a bit for surfing the web when I know what I'm looking for. I'm very pleased with it. It will never replace a PC or good laptop but that's to be expected.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Bit of Kit 29 Nov 2010
Colour Name:BLACK
Bought this as a portable PC to use for basic Office duties (OpenOffice) and Web surfing.

It feels solid and well made.
It looks good (if you like matt black)
The keyboard is has a very good feel to it when typing.
The touch pad works well and supports "two finger" operation - scrolling and zoom
The screen is matt and can be used outdoors without reflection problems

Minor quibbles:
Battery life of 9.5 hours seems optimistic, 7 hours seems more realistic.
The 250GB disk comes partitioned as 100GB C: and 117GB D: drives. It is tricky to re-partition it as the system recovery partition sits between them.
If you want to upgrade memory beyond 1GB, then you will have to replace the existing SODIMM as there is only one memory slot. It is readily accessible through an underside flap though.

All in all, I'm very pleased with the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb netbook 28 Jan 2011
Colour Name:BLACK|Verified Purchase
I did a lot of research and spoke to several technical geeks before I bought this and I can confirm that this is a cracking bit of kit for a really good price. It was up and running within minutes of delivery.

We bought this for a number of reasons which were
* Something to use in the living room that takes up little or no space
* Travel (on-line check-ins, email etc.)
* Managing photographs for our digital photo frames - it's got an SD port, so no leads or software required.

Would agree that a RAM upgrade is appropriate and it's so easy to do (buy the RAM direct from crucial and it will be on your doorstep within 48 hours - I bought mine from Amazon and it took ten days...!). It could probably do with another USB port but don't let that put you off. Keyboard feels good and is almost full size.

Get yourself a wireless mouse and a protective cover and you'll never look back.

5.0 out of 5 stars Asus EeePC 100PX 9 Feb 2011
Colour Name:BLACK|Verified Purchase
I cant praise this net book enough. I upgraded the ram to 2 GB out the box, so this review is based on the upgraded ram. It copes very well with a number of program's opened simultaneously. The net book is light portable extremely well made, keyboards a delight, screen bright and clear, "non gloss" battery life excellent not 9.5 hours 6.5 maybe 7, speakers, OK, looks and feels well built. I've also upgrade the operating system from windows 7 starter to windows 7 home premium. All in all this will be an invaluable travel companion. I have also duel booted this netbook to run Ubuntu 11.04 alongside W7, I find when I'm out and need fast access to the web, emails etc Ubuntu starts up much faster and is a joy to use. Just go to Ubuntu home page... all information about this free download is on hand and if you don't like it, just uninstall it from windows.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great piece of electronics 27 Feb 2011
By turawa
Colour Name:BLACK
The Netbook is really performing well. We use it in Africa in Vocational Training project of an NGO. The "battery supported time" is given quite accurate - going at great length . And the performance is ok, as long as you don't try to edit a video...
We added Open Office to the software and all the parts of this package are performing well.
Best Price / Value - Ratio of Computer - equipment wie ever bought. And we bought a lot...

4.0 out of 5 stars Asus EeePC 1001PX Netbook 18 Jan 2011
By LucyB
Colour Name:WHITE
Great little netbook.

- Lightweight and small - easy to carry around.
- User friendly. Limited amount of set-up required at first logon.
- Good price.

- Battery power is nowhere near 9.5 hours. More like 4-5 hours, depending on the amount of activity.
- Wi-Fi signal not picked up very well. A lot of messing about with the Router channel to get this sorted (haven't had to do this with my Laptop).
- No carry case provided.

All in all, a good product for the price paid. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a Netbook at this price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great buy!! 31 Jan 2011
Colour Name:WHITE
This netbook is very very good!

After downloading a number of pieces of software for it, it hasn't slowed down at all! The keyboard is a great size, easy to type on and doesn't require any effort to hit the key, as they're all a good size. Quick at starting up (even with Mcafee installed!)

The partitions on the hard drive are kind of annoying. Also after accidently deleting the ethanet driver and wireless drive, I needed to reformat it, but this proved to be a very hard task, as there is no disk drive, nor disk. The manual tells you to press F9 at boot up, this didnt work on a number of occasions, but after running my finger along the top of the F-keys it worked!

Apart from these little things, its very very good. Would defiantly recommend to a friend, or even anyone!!
