Product Description

Product Description
The woman who drunk herself to death with water trying to win a games console by holding in her wee...the mechanic who blew himself up while trying to open a rocket-propelled grenade with a sledgehammer...a lottery winner killed by the gates of his new luxury home...a woman felled forever by a fatal falling lettuce...an octogenarian who met his maker while riding a shopping trolley...a German artist crushed by one of his own sculptures called 'Woman With Four Breasts'...the convicted murderer who electrocuted himself on the toilet as he repaired a TV - all true reports from across the globe which reveal the silliest ways you can meet your maker. Death may seem like a serious business, but this is a seriously funny book.

About the Author
Although better known for his books on parapolitics and true crime, David Southwell has written and contributed to a number of strong selling humour books. A regular broadcaster in the UK, Europe and the US, he spent more than 15 years as a journalist and editor before turning fulltime to writing. Among his current non-book projects are a film-script about the life of US cult comedian Bill Hicks and a documentary for BBC Radio 4.

4.0 out of 5 stars What a way to go, 10 April 2009
An excellent read for those with a black sense of humour or those who marvel at the extent of human stupidity. The deaths include spectacular suicides, moronic self destruction and bizzare accidents that wouldn't be out of place in the Final Destination or Omen films. Like it or not we all have to face up to our mortality at some point, but after reading this book I'll just be happy so long at it is peacefully in my sleep and not slipping in the bathroom and impaling the toilet brush through my eye.

4.0 out of 5 stars An amusingly morbid read, 11 Mar 2009

I'll be honest; I'm one of those people that will laugh at this sort of thing. The stupidity categorised within these pages is laugh out loud funny to me at times and its proof (as if it were needed) that natural selection is still at work among humanity.

It's not perfect however. The way it's written out can be a little too heavy and clinical at times, and due to the fact that some people will just end up depressed by it, robs it of that fifth star.

But for those who can find humour in this book, it's a good read on how not to live. And on the other side of the coin, it's a good guide of how to be remembered after you die (although perhaps for all the wrong reasons!

4.0 out of 5 stars Should I laugh?, 28 Nov 2008

Well how does one review a book on death? It was very amusing in places and you can't help shaking your head at the lunacy of some people. A lighter read, probably best not to read this book if you are feeling a little bit down as you might end up in volume 2!
If you enjoy humour and want an easy read, this is a book for you.

Compelling, intriguing, perplexing and sad, but not hilarious. The review/recommendation by The Sun suggests it is hilarious. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars nothing to laugh about
I got this book as a Christmas gift. There is nothing remotely humorous between the covers and the strapline is patently untrue. Read more
