Book Description

This is a new, revised version of the original book, and many of the sections have been divided to make them shorter. Some of the longer sections have been split in two, with questions from English to French presented first and those from French to English following them in a separate section. The answers now appear at the end of each section, making navigation much easier. The 1001 multiple choice questions have been designed for learners of the French language to test their knowledge of vocabulary and grammar. Vocabulary topics include travel, leisure, shopping, medical problems, money, school, technology, weather and abbreviations. The revised version also includes sections on greeting, work and families. The grammar section covers aspects such as adjectives, adverbs, pronouns and prepositions, and there is an extensive section on verbs that includes all the main tenses. Students, tourists and expats living in French-speaking countries will all find topics of interest here. There is also an interactive table of contents to assist in navigation.

More About the Author

I have a degree in Fine Art and later in life studied French with the Open University. I have lived and worked in Paris and taught English Language and Literature abroad for a number of years. I now live in the south of England, which is where I was born and brought up. I give private tuition in French, English and Mathematics to students of all ages. In 2006, together with my elder son Sharif Salah, I published a DVD for beginners learning French entitled "French Premier".

I published my first ebook, "1001 Questions to Test Your French," in October 2012 and followed this up in January 2013 with a reference book entitled "Get to Grips with French Grammar," which should be helpful to anyone puzzled by the grammar questions in the first book. A month later came the "Mini French Phrase Book," and then "1001 Questions to Test Your English" followed in April 2013. I will also be bringing out a book entitled "L'Anglais en 1001 Questions," the reverse of my first book, for French speakers learning English.

In recent years I have published a number of articles on French grammar and vocabulary, poetry analysis and various other topics on Helium.com, where I am Channel Manager for UK Destinations in the Travel Channel. In 2011 I was nominated as Travel Photographer of the Year on Igougo.com, where I contribute reviews as well as photographs. I am also an editor and contributing member on the travel site trivago.co.uk.

Having lived abroad for so many years, I now enjoy spending my holidays discovering parts of the UK that I haven't visited before, such as Cornwall and Dartmoor. My camera is always with me.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good test of your French knowledge 14 Oct. 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is an ideal book for learners of French who want to test their knowledge. It is certainly beyond beginners but students at an intermediate level and above would find it accessible.

Expats living in France and picking up language `on the hoof' would also find it very helpful as there are many real life, practical phrases for a range of situations such as directions, medical and property purchase or rental.

Of course, French is quite a quirky language but there are useful sections on grammar including prepositions, pronouns and tenses.

With 1001 questions, all in a four option, multiple choice format, it provides a thoroughly comprehensive test workout to measure and improve your French. There is just one thing to say about it - très bon!

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! 13 Oct. 2012
By Sarah
Format:Kindle Edition
I have just dipped into this book and and am really enjoying it. As a speaker of French, this is great revision to perfect my language skills whilst being sufficiently challenging to get me thinking! The only downside is that I would like it in hard copy!

1.0 out of 5 stars Am I missing something? 10 Sept. 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I am a French Language teacher and one of my students showed this product to me. There are quite a few glaring mistakes in the content and things that are just not said in natural French. For example, question 10 asks how you would say "He left at 3 o' clock. The suggested answer is "Il a quitté à 3 heures. The verb quitter needs a direct object and without one it is nonsensical. Il est parti à 3 heures would be the correct answer but is not given as an option. My husband and I giggled at question 109 Tu es arrivé à poil (you arrived naked!) I think the expression should be pile-poil to say at the right moment. I am not sure who proof read this publication but check with a French native speaker before using these expressions. The idea, however, is excellent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful 17 July 2013

Very good book, would prefer the answers to be closer to the questions, as to get
To them you have to know they start on page 4555! Easy to look up in a paper book,
difficult on a kindle which is what I have. Challenges what you thought you knew!

5.0 out of 5 stars Test yourself and learn interesting expressions. 10 April 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Excellent book to develop expressions and idioms. Test yourself on a wide range of subjects and get the answers, then learn. Not for the absolute beginner but could still be useful, start as you mean to go on with learning a language as spoken in everyday usage. For the more academic, a reminder of the correct selection and grammatical use of verbs can be identified.
