Product Description

Product Description

Perhaps the largest collection of patchwork quilt designs and variations ever seen in a single book, and more than a few in glowing colour. The designs range from the traditional favourites to the new and innovative, and in addition there is plenty of advice on how to determine quilt size and fabric requirements, how to assemble a quilt, how to set the top, quilting, how to create with colour - in fact, about everything the needleworker needs to know.

3.0 out of 5 stars aide memoir, 23 Oct 2011

This review is from: 1001 Patchwork Designs (Paperback)
This book rates 'ok'. On the plus side it has just about nearly every block ever invented with many of the variations. It would be an excellent aide memoir for the experienced patchworker browsing for a block. On the minus side the blocks illustrations are small black white and grey. The experienced quilter will recognize the make up but they do not show the block construction so would not help the beginner. The blurb says there are glorious colour illustrations - if this was the case I couldn't find them. There were a very very few basic block representations done in very sparse primary colours.
I'll pop this one onto my book shelf and use it if I am shopping for a new block - maybe.

5.0 out of 5 stars -----A huge collection of interesting patchwork design blocks-----, 6 Mar 2011
By Judith Miller - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: 1001 Patchwork Designs (Paperback)
This is one of the first books about quilting that I purchased. I've gone through it dozens of times and count it as one of the most fascinating books in my collection of quilting books. Yes, there are actually 1001 different patchwork squares pictured in the book. There's also an index in the back telling you what page each design is on. Many of the names and designs are quite unique. For instance, Ombre, Grandmother's Cross, Eagle, Alaska Homestead, Dutch Waterways, Jack's Blocks, Easy Do, Sunny Lanes, Frame, Arrowheads, Springfield and Battle of the Alamo are just a few of the many styles that got my attention.

Most of the content in the book are the blocks pictured. Starting with one and two patch designs going up the ladder to nine patch, hexagrams, circles, diamonds and stars. There are also small chapters on Determining Quilt Size, Fabric Requirements, Quilting and Assembling the Quilt Top.

I believe that any patchwork quilter would love using this book. It's really a great book!
