Great recipes,

This review is from: 1001 Low-Carb Recipes: Recipes That Let You Eat All of the Foods You Love and Have Your Low-Carb Diet (Paperback)
I read a few of the reviews on Amazon, so I was a little unsure about ordering this book, but I am glad that I did. It really has changed my whole outlook to the low carb diet. I have been on the low carb 'lifestyle' (let's not call it a diet - it really is for life) since May this year and so far have lost nearly 2 stone. I am at my ideal weight now, and in the maintenance stage of living low carb. This book caters for all stages and shows the carb content of each recipe so that you can decide if its worth cooking or not depending on what stage you are in.The bread recipes are brilliant, especially the cinnamon bread which is amazing toasted with lots of butter. I eat this for breakfast most days and it really doesn't feel like 'diet' bread. I am slowly working my way through the recipes, and its taken a while. Some have been a bit hit and miss, and I did find that some of the ingredients are very American, but I managed to substitute some of the weirder ingredients. I don't eat meat, which is always a disadvantage for me when ordering low carb cookbooks, as most of heavy on the meat, but there are lots of fish and vegetable dishes which I have managed to cook. The tuna burgers are lovely and the homemade tartare sauce was to die for! A major disadvantage is that there are no photos or pictures, which annoyed me a little at first, but I did enjoy experimenting and discovering how they turned out. It would have been nice to include a few snaps though. I would recommend this book to established low carbers, but it's not for someone just starting out on discovering low carb, I would say any of the Atkins books would be more beneficial. But if you are looking for a recipe book to increase your cooking opportunities then this is highly recommended. Recipes I loved: Cinnamon bread, ginger waffles, cumin mushrooms and the granola.

Great Low Carb Cookbook,

This review is from: 1001 Low-Carb Recipes: Recipes That Let You Eat All of the Foods You Love and Have Your Low-Carb Diet (Paperback)
After starting a low carb diet (after reading Bernsteins Diabetes Solution book) we bought this book to help us create a few new and interesting recipes. We've already tried a few of the recipes here - and found them easy to follow and tasty to eat. The low carb bread recipes were particularly inspiring. The book is well organised making recipes easy to find. The only problem for us in the UK is translating or finding some of the American ingredients - but with so many online low-carb shops, it's not so very difficult!

l didn.t realise that this is an American book, l find the ingredients very hard to find and others l cannot find at all, in the dessert section no weights are given for gelatin, just servings, the recipes l have managed to cook have been very good, plenty of advice on carbs.
