100 Years of Strauss displays Rieu at his best, with a larger than usual orchestra (50 piece) captured in lush, resonant sound. The program is imaginative, nearly all of it by Johann Strauss Jr. with one item, 'On Holiday,' by Josef and the whirling Spain-inspired 'Cachucha Galopp' by Johann Sr. Other items of interest include the "Nun's Chorus" from 'Casanova' and two songs from 'The Gypsy Baron,' all heard in Rieu's arrangements. Then there are the items one simply cannot live without, such as 'Tales from the Vienna Woods' with its delightful zither solo, 'Vienna Blood,' and, of course, 'The Blue Danube.' No number of hearings can keep one from wanting to hear these memorable tunes again and again, especially when played with such devotion and infectiously high spirits. Decca are promoting this as a `new` Andre Rieu album, when it was originally released back in 1999 - as one of his earliest Johann Strauss Orchestra recordings..
That doesn't make it a bad album of course - it is very good.
However, Andre Rieu's UK representatives are doing him no favours by releasing old material to fans who are only now discovering his music in this country.
His two albums which have been released here (Forever Vienna and Moonlight Serenade) are both compilations of music previously released elsewhere.
There was no mention on the recent re-release of the Live in Dublin DVD that it was recorded, and originally came out in 2003.
Now that Andre Rieu seems to have established a good British fan-base, perhaps Decca could release his latest album `Roses from the South` (although it was released with a different title in some territories), or some other complete albums rather than compilations.
If not - many of them are available through Amazon, or fromhis web-site.

Truly delightful where the listener is transported back to the world Strauss by Andre Rrieu

One of the finest recordings of Viennese Strauss music from Andre Rieu. Every time I listen to it I want to getup and dance. Unfortunately being disabled this is not possible, however, I'm transported into a world of beautiful music

Love this CD. Have it playing in my car, love Strauss - made even more enjoyable by Andre. Highly recommended.

this is a very good cd, but I think some of the tunes are a little obscure, never the less its good value for money

Walz music
100 years of Strauss is beautiful and Andre Rieu is well worth buying.It really makes you want to dance and is so relaxing to listen to.
