Informative, useful and funny!,

This book is a must for anyone attempting DIY for the first time. It covers everything from what tools to buy to how to use them, changing a plug to changing the colour of your walls, laying the floor to faking it! It details basic repairs like fixing a door and replacing a pane of glass, installation of a washing machine (but not how to fix my broken washing machine, but at least I can plumb the new one in if I can't fix this one!) and then goes on to 'cosmetic' stuff like laying carpet and wood flooring, tiling, painting and wallpapering. It also has a brilliant guide to assembling flat-pack furniture! The descriptions assume that you know nothing but not that you are stupid. And the text is illustrated with some great pictures and funny one-liners!The last chapter also covers what NOT to attempt yourself and how to get the best from a workman. All in all a brilliantly written guide to doing it myself, I can't wait to get to B&Q!

the best book EVER!,

Is this the best book ever? YES!!!I am hopeless at DIY - I've lived with a sticking door and a dripping tapfor 2 years cos I have no idea what to do - or should I say had no idea - now the sticky door and drippy tap are no more and boy do I feel proud of myself. I now own a drill and am planning to do lots of home 'improvements' in my new house - like making bookshelves and a new funky bath panel Buy this book, it's fantastic

Just imagine a book that is readable, entertaining, funny and practical. Wouldn't you rush to the shops (or the mouse) to buy one? This is a very clear DIY book for BOTH women AND men! Lots of good hints for me and I'm a professional (male) painter and decorator. This is a great present for any woman wanting to learn a few DIY skills, it's very well put together and a good read. Totally recommended.
