Book Description

100 Stories for Haiti -- from concept to book in six weeks!

Proceeds go to the Red Cross Haiti Earthquake and Disaster Recovery appeals.

On the morning of January 19, days after a devastating earthquake struck near Haiti's capital, author Greg McQueen posted a video on his blog: "Dear Twitterverse, I can't keep watching the news about Haiti on television or trending on Twitter without doing something. I woke up this morning with the idea that together we could make a book and donate all royalties to the Haiti Earthquake Appeal."

Within hours of Greg's first announcement, news spread throughout microblogging website, Twitter, and story submissions began arriving. By the submission deadline a week later, the project had received over 400 submissions -- whittled down to one hundred during the following week, and the full 80,000 word manuscript was published and made available through retailers within six weeks of Greg's initial blog.

Best-selling author Nick Harkaway contributed a story and penned the book's introduction. Tania Hershman, author of The White Road and Other Stories, and prize-winning author, Vanessa Gebbie, are also featured in the book, along with other published authors and first-timers, never published before.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good read for a great cause 11 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback
I've just got to the end of this book - and although I am one of the authors I can thoroughly recommend the other 99 stories.

It's a cracking read - very different styles and very different takes on the theme of 'hope'. No story is over 1,000 words long so it's excellent to dip in and out of - yes, it's a keep in the loo book.

I bought this book simply because my talented mum ( Teresa Ashby, ps she also has other books out for the Kindle, you'd be mad not to give them a whirl for the price!) is one of the authors, and I do so love her work. ( And not in the 'Oh my god she's my mum best pretend shes good else I'm out of the will' kind of way, but the 'Wow, all these years I have watched her striving with her writing career and three kids and she is brilliant!' type of way!!!
Anyway, brown nosing over ( she'd best give me extra roasties for this!) I was really pleased with my purchase. The stories are engrossing and well written and a great book to take with you on journeys, whether commuting or travelling a lot, as you can put it down, you won't lose your place in the stories, for they are quick reads and thoroughly enjoyable, for men as much as women. But the greatest thing is its all help towards a heartbreaking tragedy in Haiti. A wonderful book for a wonderful cause by many many wonderful authors. 100 Stories for Haiti A great gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant read 23 April 2010
Format:Paperback
This book has great stories and they are diverse enough to suit everyone. As a busy person I liked the fact that I can finish a full story over a quick cup of coffee. It's all for a good cause too.
