I know someone who has an original copy of this on vinyl!,

There's not a alot I can say about this album, except listen to it! The best track has to be track 8, "I'm looking for a Saxophonist." That has been my favourite since I was a little girl. I say I know someone with an original copy of this track, I should hope so too because he happens to be the bass player in this band...Oh, and my Dad!

I too know, or should I say knew, someone with an original vinyl copy. Over a five year period I must have listened to this album almost daily (I was dating the eldest daughter of one of the band members). Then it all stopped. I havn't heard a single track since 1990 - but now, having bought the album for my current girlfriend, I stand as much chance of wearing this one out as I thought we would way back when! It still sounds as fresh now as it did then. Although I hadn't been born when some of the tracks were being written and first performed, I've always been surprised not to have heard more of the band. Now with yet another Northern Soul revival, maybe they'll get the credit and recognition they deserve. Buy it - you won't regret it.

Artwoods - '100 Oxford Street' (Get Back),
By Mike Reed - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: 100 Oxford Street (Audio CD)
Until like a month ago, I was never even aware this short-lived British rhythm & blues band ever existed - as they were only active between 1964-67. The disc's highlights are easy to spot (although the entire CD kicks total *ss) like the awesome "Sweet Mary", "Oh My Love" with it's catchy guitar lines, "Keep Lookin'" (possibly the best song of this entire piece), "I Feel Good", "Down In The Valley" and the well written "Don't Cry No More". Personnel: Art Wood (Ron Wood's brother, R.I.P.) - lead vocals, Derek Griffin - guitar, Malcolm Pool - bass, Jon Lord (Deep Purple) - keyboards and Keef Hartley - drums. Highly recommended for loyal fans of the Animals, Birds, Yardbirds and the Downliners Sect. Would make a nice gift.
