** Puberty can start anytime between the ages of 7and 13. 10 1/2 is the average age!
My daughter (now 10 years) has been showing signs of puberty since 8 years. It was a bit of a shock to me for this to happen so early and a bit of a shock to her when she realised (during school swimming lessons) that not everyone was going through the same changes.
Because it was an unsettled time for her, I bought a book that explained it to her in a language an 8 year old could understand. She 'has' read it and it helped, but it's now hidden in the depths of a would-be teenagers bedroom!!
She recently had sex education classes at her school (Year 5) and on our latest trip to the library, selected 100% ME herself. So I've had a look at it and it really is a brilliant book.
In DK style it really does ilustrate the topic very well and the written word is excellent (doesn't beat about the bush) and very easy for a child of 10 years + to understand. Having said that, I would probably have let her read this book at 8 also!
It covers everything from spots, why do I smell, bullying, relationships, keeping fit, periods, boobs & bras, to how a baby grows (and yes, how they get there). It is written in a way that your growing child will understand and take seriously (as it explains fully, removing the embarassment of trying to explain things that some books skirt over).
IF YOUR CHILD IS STARTING TO SHOW SIGNS OF PUBERTY - YOU REALLY MUST BUY A BOOK LIKE THIS - AND THIS IS AS GOOD AS IT GETS!!!!!
