I have this set. Despite the fact that the publishers put a picture of the interior of the Montreal Basilica of Notre-Dame on the cover, you should not be fooled. This is, in fact, pure English hymnody from beginning to end. And it is glorious! Every hymn is sung by a distinguished English cathedral - or other notable English church - choir. Every hymn is sung with beautiful organ accompaniment in a churchly fashion. After seeing the sheer number of great hymns on these disks (there are 5 disks), and the splendid choirs represented, I thought perhaps this was a 'summary edition' of the 23 disks of Priory's 'Complete English Hymnal' (I have all of them, too). However, there is no indication that this is the case. But who has ever heard of 'Castle Pulse' records???
I keep this set of disks in my Land Rover so that I don't harm my 'Complete English Hymnal' disks; but truth to tell, this collection of hymns is every bit as good as the Priory series. It is unbelievable, but true! But no one should pay $250 for this (or any other set of five CDs). $35 to $50 would be a fair price. The other problem, though, is that this collection is hard to find in the USA - let alone at a reasonable price. Still, if you love English hymnody, you will love this collection!
