This book is a nice way to open your eyes at the significance of mathematics in everyday life, in somehow easy, though not very easy, way of expressing it.
You have to be familiar and comfortable with mathematics equations and algebra to keep going in this book.

Firstly the title made me curious I didn't know what to expect. But I found the 100 topics to be just as John Barrow intended. The book comes over with explanations, humour, topicalities and extreme knowledge. Very good for impressing friends at dinner conversations, now I'm a genius like John Barrows.
Though I don't know if I understand it all yet, maybe that makes it 101 Things I didn't know I didn't know. I dont know. Thanks John Barrows!

best of a kind ? 10 April 2011
By Aberter
Format:Hardcover
I've flicked through quite a few of this type of book; they usually do not hold my attention for long - not sure how many I have on the shelves. This one gets the balance just right. It is interesting, informative and mathematically clever enough - there is never the requirement to get out pen and paper to try and follow the ideas, which in my mind makes a book not an easy read. If I need a pen and paper it is only for real problems, not "spare time" reading. In fact, I'm sure that at least a few of these problems have been presented by others - but never as clearly and succinctly.
