3.0 out of 5 stars Well-documented mediocrity 21 Jun 2010
Format:Audio CD
Track 4 of CD 4 is supposedly '7 Ways To Love' by Cola Boy, according to Amazon's product details.

Interestingly, the CD packaging itself claims 'Don't You Want Me' by Felix.

Even more interesting is that the CD itself has been pressed with 'God Is A DJ' by Faithless.

Methinks someone scrabbled to make last minute changes to the composition of this CD.

Apart from that little detail -- and perhaps others: I'm not familiar with most of the songs and their correct titles -- what do you get? A mixed bag, which is what the nineties were. The compilers have done a decent enough job of representing the decade in mainstream hits, but that necessarily makes for a patchy collection, given the dross that was popular at the time. Dodgy covers of songs that were dodgy in their original form sit next to originals that we can only hope with clenched fists will never be revived by others.

The occasional good tune from the likes of the Lightning Seeds, Republica and Catatonia can't save this CD from reflecting the mainstream mediocrity of the decade it documents. In the faithfulness of that reflection, this collection is a success.

4.0 out of 5 stars UK 23 Mar 2013

The reason why a lot of these songs are not recognized by people in the US is that these are the UK's top 90's hits. You'll find some familiar US songs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not All Top Of Chart Alltimers But, There Are No Fillers Either 27 Aug 2013
By Umar M. Ahmad - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
This is a cd collection I would recommend to those looking to explore new songs, probably not heard before, I personally found about 25 I wouldnt mind throwing on a cd mix, as well as familiar songs like:

Two Princes - Spin Doctors 4:17
Mambo no. 5 - Lou Bega 3:40
Here Comes The Hotstepper - Ini Kamoze 4:09
Everybody - Backstreet Boys 3:47
Lullaby - Shawn Mullins 4:15
Shy Guy - Diana King 3:43
Mr Loverman - Shabba Ranks 3:38
How Am I Supposed To Live Without You - Michael Bolton 4:16
Torn - Natalie Imbruglia 3:03
Nobody Knows - The Tony Rich Project 4:23
Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now) - C+C Music Factory 3:27
Mr. Vain - Culture Beat 4:19
Where Do You Go - No Mercy 4:33
Steal My Sunshine - Len 4:00
Ready To Go - Republica 3:40
Anything - 3T 5:23
Everyday People - Arrested Development 3:53(Explicit Lyrics something I never knew about this song)
Right Here - SWV 3:44
Another Night - Real Mccoy 3:59
Un-Break My Heart - Toni Braxton 3:42
Waterfalls - TLC 3:27
Rush Rush - Paula Abdul 4:19
I Believe I Can Fly - R Kelly 3:18
Virtual Insanity - Jamiroquai 3:48
Summertime - DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince( Will Smith) 3:59
Scatman (Skibabopbadopbop) - Scatman John 3:33
It's My Life - Dr. Alban 4:02

Chances are good you might already have some of these songs for me, I did NOT have 20 out of the 27 listed above already in my collection, as far as the quality Its hard to say... The quality is good enough to where if you put these songs along with songs of a "REMASTER" CD the volume would be for the most part on par but I don't know if all these songs were remastered, the best i can say is given by these select examples the Real Mccoy song "another night" was same quality as "another night" off the album of the same name the Paula Abdul song "rush rush" sounded better to me for some reason than the Paula Abdul Straight Up! Greatest Hits cd, the song on the collection cd just sounded way to loud, kind of irritating but not on this 100 essential 90s hits compilation sounded right to me, however the song by Len "steal my sunshine" and Diana King Song "shy guy" sounded just a little low in volume and lacking somewhat in quality, but it still sounds very decent, its not enough to retract from these songs, than I checked R Kelly's song "i believe i can fly" compared to the one off of R in R&B Collection 1 (2003) and the one in R in R&B Coll is impressively better than the one on this compilation, you can hear things you dont hear on this compilation in the chorus no less and not to metion it is a full 2 minutes longer at 5:20 than the one on this cd box set 3:18, and then i compare Jamiroquai's "virtual insanity" with the one off the original album Travelling Without Moving (With Bonus Track)(1996) and the song in this compilation is light years above that one and in addition it is the radio/video edit 3:48, which i prefer instead of the album version 5:40. For the TLC's Song "waterfalls" I think its a tad bit better than TLC's Playlist: The Very Best Of TLC. due to the fact its a little louder and you can hear all the instrumentals crisper, this song is also shorter on this compilation at 3:27 compared to 4:41 on the Playlist CD. Toni Braxton's song "un-break my heart" sounds better on her Ultimate Toni Braxton CD compared to this and is longer at 4:28 compared to 3:42 on this cd. The SWV song "right here" sounds better in SWV Platinum & Gold Collection but not by much, it just sounds smoother on that SWV collection cd, both songs are 3:44. Overall in my estimation quality is not a problem with this cd box set.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I was expecting. 23 Dec 2012
By YourMom - Published on Amazon.com

I wish I would have had a song list. I didn't know most of the songs on the CD's. Out of 100 songs I probably knew 10 and I am definitely familiar with 90's music. I guess I needed 90's alternative. Otherwise the product arrived fine and on time from amazon. I tried a different seller first and they were taking too long.

It was just O.K. There were a lot of songs on the discs that were not top 100 hits. It's just 100 songs that they consider hits.
