This is a superb book full of places you might never know about or ever find. For that, it gets five stars.
The main criticism I have is that many of the directions are quite vague and it's quite difficult to find even the starting point for the walk. The walks themselves are superb and extremely enjoyable but almost every one which I've tried, found myself scratching my head and wondering how to get to the next part of the walk. I'm so grateful to the author for these treasures but would hope that there is a revised edition with more concise directions.

I took some of the trails when I visited. It was awesome. I would recommend getting away from Prince St and The Golden Mile. Venture into the countryside, that's where the real magic is.
Absolutely Fabulous 20 Oct 2004

The author, Derek Storey, was one of my Host Parents when I studied abroad in Scotland in the fall of 2000. We went on many walks around Edinburgh and Glasgow. A favorite of mine was the walk along the Clyde River from New Lanark. It is a gorgeous walk in the fall with the leaves changing color. Derek knows his stuff, and checks on the walks when he can to see if there are any new developments. He even takes out his host students on these walks. I can't think of a much better way to see some of the countryside than strolling along a meandering path. I highly recommend the book and the country it explores.
