* Yearly from 1986, strictly limited pressings of approximately 400 vinyl 45s have been given out at the September anniversary dances. Mostly unissued titles taken from master tapes, they have been an eagerly awaited event on the Northern Soul scene ever since. This compilation brings all the A-sides together on CD for the first time and includes the very first issued in 1984.
* The singles become instant collectors items nowadays, with the first copy on eBay hitting the £50 plus mark immediately. Some are so in-demand that a three-figure price tag is not unknown.
* Each track has an interesting history that Father to the Vinyl, Ady Croasdell, tells in the sleevenotes along with all the amusing (and embarrassing) anecdotes.
* It is the CD debut of Jackie Day's unreleased Modern-recorded in-demand dancer `Get To Steppin''...

"Are There Any More Like You At Home?",

This review is from: The 100 Club Anniversary Singles 6TS 1979-2009 (Audio CD)
Amazingly there are still great soul/R&B/dance tracks still being discovered deep in the vaults of the great labels of 40 years ago. The "100 Club Anniversary Singles" collection is proof positive of that. This 24-track compilation digs up and lets into the light (or into your ears) an amazing trove of vital cuts by artists, known and obscure, that did not get released back in the 1960s. Whenever I hear "lost" tracks this good, I think, "How could they not have released this back in the day?" I guess there was just too much talent pumping out too many great songs for all to zip our the door and onto the R&B charts. Virtually every cut here should have been a hit. My favorites are "Hey Stoney Fact" by Mary Love, "Love Has Passed Me By," by Phil Terrell, and "I Don't Wanna Lose Him," by the Charmaines. But ask me tomorrow and I might have a different set of favorites. God bless the "Northern Soul" scene for keeping this music alive and bringing it to new devotees over the past 30 years. It would be awesome to have these 24 singles (only available and in a in a tiny number at the 100 Club), but that would be costly and almost impossible to do - so grab this import amd start dancing.
