About the Author

Originally trained as a nurse, Barbara Currie first practised yoga in the 1960’s. She was one of the first in the UK to bring yoga to the general public. Formerly a GMTV yoga presenter, she now teaches at her school in Surrey. Her videos Power of Yoga and 7 Secrets of Yoga have made her the bestselling yoga video presenter in the UK.

I have Barbara Currie's video and previous book '10 Minute Yoga Workouts' and have eagerly awaited this new release.
I must admit I was expecting just more of the same, and whilst some of the moves are repeated, you really get the sense that Barbara's yoga has evolved and moved on.
This time she gives us a complete 28 day plan which allows you to tackle your body shape and flexibility along with your diet and even your self-confidence all in one fell swoop!
I love the day-by-day format so that all you have to do is open the book at the right page and follow that day's instructions - so easy!
3-4 exercises are given per day with Saturday used to repeat the week's worth and Sunday as a rest day, except for a walk outdoors. You learn 60 yoga postures over the whole book and your flexibility improves without it becoming a chore.
There is a diet plan as well and this is a big improvement on the last book where only a couple of pages at the end were devoted to the diet issue. The emphasis is definitely on fresh wholesome food with a sample menu for each day and even recipes at the end. This is great but I do think the plan is overly restrictive in that it allows no snacks at all! I thought these days we were supposed to be in favour of 5 small meals so the metabolism stays constantly fired up? Still the promise of losing 10lbs in 28 days will probably tempt some people to give it a go.
My favourite part of the book is the daily visualisation and inspirational quotes. These encourage you to re-programme your mind with positive affirmation statements - 'I have got the promotion I have been aiming for and love my new job' (sounds great!) - and remind you each day to take your goals that little stage further.

This is the first time I've tried anything by Barbara Currie and I'm glad I did! Firstly she makes yoga sound fun and easy, which is important if you are a beginner and might be feeling daunted by all the yoga books and DVDs on the market. Secondly she's a great advert for yoga herself - over 60 and bending and stretching in all the right places BUT don't let the photos of her put you off, she mentions throughout the book that it takes time to be supple and that she also knows what it's like to be stiff and not be able to reach her toes - she's been there! I think there are three reasons to try this book as opposed to any other : the programme is easy to follow, the explanations are clear and it's inspiring. I found I wanted to do over 10 minutes after the first few days and I really did limber up and tone up. I didn't follow the diet as such but I did follow her general guidelines and the yoga itself really stretched me out and I felt much better : fitter and more toned. All yoga programmes can do this I imagine but the difference with this one is that you will follow it because it's easy to do. And it really does only take 10 minutes in the morning. You can also do the same exercises in the evening to make 20 minutes of yoga practice a day. It also means that you learn the moves more easily. I recommend this book 100%.

I have had the book for two weeks....and I love it. I have been feeling great ever since I started doing the exercises. 10 mts a day- makes it very doable. I have lost 5 pounds in 14 days. I have not been following the diet strictly-but when I did[about 6-7 days], that is when I saw most of the weight loss.

I recommend this book however for its holistic approach to incorporating yoga into one's lifestyle in a totally non-disruptive manner. We all know the benefits of yoga.... the challenge has been getting it into the routine ...and that I think is where this book really scores!

Unless you are between 5 foot and 5 foot 5 inches and naturally given to eating tiny amounts, there will not be enough food in the diet to prevent you fainting in the streets to the embarrassment of all.
If you want a quick intro to yoga and some structured exercises to do each day - this is the book for you.
The photos and explanations are helpful and do-able (in the main) and it does help limber you up.
She also gives helpful advice on keeping yourself beautiful in all situations.
I shall never leave home without a reel of sellotape again ....
(ha! You'll have to read the book to find out why!!)
