It's not easy to judge fitness dvds by their covers but this one is better inside than out. There are 5 different routines generally for different muscle groups which conveniently can be mixed & matched according to time, interest & for variety. Each is different enough to avoid being repetitive which helps stick with the sessions over the long term and interesting enough to be fun & motivate. Each dance routine is simple enough to be learnt in 10 mins and fast paced so plenty is packed in to the short time. The explanations are simple to follow and neither patronising nor assuming. I used this dvd to do cardio work at home over the winter which has worked great. I could do 10 mins even when tired or the whole 50 mins for a satisfying pulse raising workout. Have used it as a supplement to other dvds over the past 3 months & this is the one I enjoy most. Only negative thing is it's for beginners, which is great at the start but feels a little too easy after (some) time but on work nights when I'm feeling too tired I still want to do at least 1 routine AND it HAS made a difference physically!

For anybody unfamiliar with the 10 minute solution DVD's, the DVD contains 5 workouts broken down into 10 minute routines, you can do them as standalone workouts, combine them, or mix and match to meet your own needs. Each routine, starts with a warm up and cool down within the 10 minutes needless to say if you are doing the full workout this seems pointless - but I will come back to this.

Firstly the trainer Jennifer Galardi is an LA dancer, so I though oh dear, we are not off to a good start with her super california bod. However, she is motivating, gives good direction and isn't "overtly upbeat" she continues to encourage the viewer throughout the DVD, and talks through the routines step by step.

I workout 4-6 times a week and got a bunch of DVD's of which this is definitely one of my favourites - I enjoy Dance based cardio workouts. I am choreographically challenged, so it took a couple of goes through the DVD for me to get the hang of some of the steps. In each section the routine is built up slowly starting with form, then increased speed adding hands etc. So even for my first few attempts at not getting each of the steps I still managed to break into a sweat by continuing with the steps I had learnt.

The sections are Simple Slimmer, Calorie Meltdown, Fat Burning Party, Butt and Thigh Blaster and finally Ab Attack.

Simple slimmer - is the first cardio based dance section, in terms of technique the easiest of the 3. I would say its an intermediate with new moves, and gets your heart in the right zone.

Calorie Meltdown and Fat Burning Party are the other 2 dance sections and for me a little more advanced, the cardio is a notch up from simple slimmer as are the dance moves.

I really am at odds with people who were not satisfied with this dvd.

Firstly, a couple said the moves were too difficult to follow, even for someone with prior (dance) experience... What a load of rubbish! I don't have any dance background, yet i found the moves fine. Yes, a few details you don't get straight away, but that makes it more interesting. And the moves are an absolute delight, so much so I've been incorporating them in my club outings. In fact, I have been looking forward to the mornings when it's this dvd's turn!

2nd criticism was that this dvd is too easy and... too difficult. Well, that's sorted then! This dvd is just right. I have been doing the full 50 minutes and feel I've burned plenty calories by the end of it (and I am in a relatively fit condition).

I have approximately 50 minutes of cardio every morning, for which i alternate days between: Fat Blasting Dance Mix (reviewed here), Hip Hop Abs and Ministry of Sound V4, all 3 absolutely great dvds. This here dvd is definitely my favourite in terms of sheer enjoyment, at least in the first 3 workouts, as the last two are a bit more exercise-y. Ab-solutely, totally recommended!

This is a very high-energy, fast-paced workout that falls somewhere between dance and aerobics.

If you are already in good shape and familiar with some dance moves, this is probably a great workout for you. It is highly paced so will challenge you plenty.

However, if you are a normal British woman who's looking to do something about post-Christmas pounds: beware! If you are a complete novice dancer or you are not very fit at the moment, this workout is really demanding. I have plenty of dance experience (albeit some time ago) but I struggled to follow the moves and wasn't fit enough to keep up very easily. I will have to work hard to master this DVD - if you want something you can follow easily, this may not be for you. It's a bit Californian body beautiful, and made me feel like a bit of an English frump! I can't say the music is very inspiring, it's just 'wallpaper' dance beat, really.

On the positive side, the workouts are broken down into 10 minute chunks, which makes it easy to fit into a busy lifestyle, and means those of us who are less than super-fit can do bitesize workouts! You can also program the DVD to go through the five 10-minute workouts in any order, effectively creating a customised workout.

Worth giving a go, but more of a workout than a fun dance session.
