Disappointing

I'm sorry to give this book a terrible review as the author seems a sweet person. But if you found this title after reading Malcolm Gladwell's 'Outliers' or the paper, 'The Making of an Expert' by Ericsson, Prietula and Cokely, as I did, and you are curious to know more about evidence based research for the '10,000 hour rule', you won't find it in this book. It starts well enough to keep you reading but then descends quickly into a check-list style, self-help, quasi psychological piece of trash. I was terribly disappointed. Two things alerted me early on. Firstly, when the author states this book is 'not a self-help book'. You would think if it wasn't a self-help book that would be obvious. But of course, it is a self-help book and so I was immediately suspicious of the value I was going to derive from this book. Second, the epigraphs that begin each chapter seem plucked from a google search or perhaps a publishers epigraph library in order to pad out the pages. When I found a quote from Taylor Swift I stopped reading.

This is a book I will read over and over. It is a great little tool in my quest for success!
What I really liked is that the Author, Phyllis Lane does not just talk about one subject but
touches upon several topics from wealth to relationships. Giving straightforward, no-nonsense advice from her personal daily practices on these topics.
This book made me take a hard look at what I do in practice everyday and with effort can start to change my direction for the better over time.
You will not come away from reading this book thinking success or mastering something new will come overnight or is easy!
You will learn that your daily practice directly relates to your future success, health and overall well being.
Something EVERYONE can achieve if you are willing to put in the hours of continuous practice.

I love the precision with which Lane and Coelho structure this book. It is easy to read, a breeze to incorporate into your life, and beautifully written. I read it in a day and started with new practices right away! I already feel a shift in my life and can imagine what that will look like after 10,000 hours!!!
