I'm Dave Thackeray, and I'm here to make you think differently about digital.

I got a Spectrum in 1982. I remember playing Cookie and some game with a bee and some flowers. I liked that.

It wasn't exactly the next day I got a job as a journalist but when I did, after holding court over the roulette table as a croupier at my local casino, I realised that the future was increasingly digital.

But instead of turning myself into a set of pixels I decided to learn how we could all tell better stories using the internet as enhancer.

It turns out I got a few things right. After editing the biggest travel magazine in Europe for a while, I got a chance to lead a team of digital marketers. And thus the seeds were sewn and after playing with cookies of the edible (if pixellated) variety all those years ago I was ready to harness electronic equivalents to help customers find what they wanted, better and more quickly than ever before.

Telling stories today is our biggest opportunity to get closer to our customers of today and tomorrow. Relevancy and transparency is everything.

Did I mention I host radio shows, too? Having spent years as a broadcaster both in the real world and on the web, I know what it takes to win a community - and throughout my experience as a journalist identifying the most important elements of any story was critical to the success of that newspaper or magazine.
