Each section is broken up with key exercises that not only incorporate the subject at hand, but also work in short, yet effective grammar exercises that gradually get more difficult as your French progresses over the year. What's more, each topic has a review and summary section the end of it, thus allowing you to consolidate all that you have learnt and test your grammar skills again. For me it's a 5 star buy. The grammar is laid out very well, and you can test yourself at the end of each unit. If you are studying French at A Level, then I cannot recommend a better series of books than Élan 1 or 2. I've seen some bad reviews for the élan books, but given that our entire college language department uses these books, I can see that it's for a good reason. The book contains all you will possibly need for your learning of the topics throughout your AS/A level course, well, a very good initial structure, with which you can then expand upon, either with teachers notes or your own learning. Each section is broken up with key exercises that not only incorporate the subject at hand, but also work in short, yet effective grammar exercises that gradually get more difficult as your French progresses over the year. What's more, each topic has a review and summary section the end of it, thus allowing you to consolidate all that you have learnt and test your grammar skills again. For me it's a 5 star buy.

This is a very good tool for cramming before the exam. It gives you a good-all round vocab list for all units, good tips and a good selection of verbs and grammar. If you master the language and topics well then this will be very useful as a revision guide. Beware though, there are some mis-translations in there which a real linguist will pick out. Sure it won't make you fail your exam. Still this is annoying, you would think that after years of putting together these books, they would make sure they are absolutely perfect by now...

Good all round exercise book
Good all round book with exercises on different areas of grammar. Good for the intermediate student.

Disappointing
Revamp of original Elan 1. Much better resources on the market for new style exams. Would not recommend it.
