I'd previously purchased and enjoyed 'Lost Horizon', so I thought I would give this a shot.
I'm glad I did. I liked Lost Horizon, but not all the tracks 'did it' for me. I REALLY like this album. It continues the very Steampunk theme of dirigibles, sky-pirates, etc. Musically it's a real blend of old and modern - "Until the day I die" wouldn't sound out of place in a 1920's speakeasy.
"Building steam" is a real foot-stomper.
"My Life" has a slightly near-Eastern vibe.
"Wanderlust" has an old-time jazzy sound, and "Throw them Overboard" is a great singalong (Amazon have mixed up the titles of these two tracks.)
"The Derelict" is based on the famous "Yo-Ho-Ho and a Bottle of Rum" from RL Stevenson's 'Treasure Island.'
"Victoria" slows things down with a slow waltz love song, then we're back into full sea-shanty mode with 'Aether Shanties'.
The final two tracks have a distinctly rocky feel.
All in all, a GREAT album. I'm still undecided as to whether any of the tracks are quite the equal of 'Skyship Pirates' from 'Lost Horizon', but some of them come close, and all in all I think this is a far better collection.
If you enjoy the whole steampunk thing (or even if you don't), listen to some of the samples provided by Amazon, or check them out on youtube. You may find you discover a new favourite group!
